I began as an artist, painting and selling my work, although people know me better as an author and broadcaster, even cooking with the fabulous Hairy Bikers and James Martin. And though I enjoyed every second of those crazy cooking times and still take part in a cookery programme on Radio Wales with the fabulous Eleri Sion, I love my new passion of felt sculpture and relish a more permanent art form.
I began designing knitwear, seeking out yarns from kindly kept animals and met Agatha Christie – a mohair goat who lives in Cornwall, England with eleven other very loved goats. And once I had touched those soft silky locks I was inspired me to make creatures out of those very magical fibres.
So my little animals start with a simple bunch of fibres and a barbed needle. I use alpaca and Shetland fleece which is rough to withstand stormy winds, sometimes British merino, Texel, Teeswater and mohair. As my little creations emerge, I dress them, sometimes knitting tiny clothes in the finest mohair yarns, trimming them with the best laces and ribbons I can find. I add tiny pearls and beads to their shoes, or crochet them bootees, loving every second. Often I use Liberty fabrics, so some of my little animals come to life as loved as pets.
I have created a small black Labrador like my dear Poppy and a precious pony from photographs and maybe I can make a dear pet for you. Or maybe you would like to give your loved one a panda holding an engagement ring. Your wish is my command.
Now it’s your turn to own one of my Needle Felted Wishes as a small friend who can sit by your computer, desk or shelf.
I am a perfectionist and each small creature that leaves my home will be made as beautiful as possible with its own sweet character and packed carefully in a presentation box. If there is any problem, please contact me and it will be sorted immediately. I will accept returns, if the creature is in exactly the condition and packaging it has been posted, although I hope that never happens.
Regrets my Needle Felted Wishes are not suitable for small children. However an older child will enjoy the company of one of my felted animals
Thank you for visiting me and please let me know if I can make a little friend for you as a special gift to pass on or collect.
